Jennifer Collins is a partner in the Private Clients Group at Nixon Peabody LLP. She advises individuals and families on sophisticated estate planning matters, including estate, gift and income tax planning. Ms. Collins also advises business owners and entrepreneurs with respect to tax, creditor protection and business succession matters.
Ms. Collins counsels clients on the estate administration process, guiding family members and fiduciaries through probate proceedings, attending to tax issues, crafting practical solutions and mitigating disputes.
She also represents beneficiaries and fiduciaries, including banks and other financial institutions, on will contests and trust-related matters. Ms. Collins has extensive experience modifying, decanting and terminating trusts under the Massachusetts Uniform Trust Code, both through Court proceedings and through the use of non-judicial settlement agreements.
Ms. Collins advises professional trustees in the charitable arena with respect to the private foundation rules, trust modifications, terminations and cy pres proceedings. She also counsels charitable organizations with respect to structuring, obtaining tax-exempt status and ongoing legal issues.
Ms. Collins serves as personal representative and trustee for her clients and also works closely with family members and professionals who are serving in these roles.
Ms. Collins has been named repeatedly as a “Rising Star” by Law & Politics Media, Inc., based on a peer-review survey of attorneys in Massachusetts. The “Rising Stars” are published annually in the Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Stars Edition and in Boston Magazine. She has served on the faculty of “A Primer on International Estate Planning” (Lorman Educational Services, January 2013) and is a contributing author to Understanding and Using Trusts (MCLE, Inc. Supp. 2011) and the Massachusetts Probate Manual (MCLE, Inc. Supp. 2014).

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Watch Point Trust Company, Ms. Collins is also a member of the Watch Point Trust Committee. Ms. Collins is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association. She is also a former Director of the East Boston Social Centers, Inc. Ms. Collins is a member of the American, Massachusetts, Boston and Women’s bar associations.
